What a bleeping trip that was. Half way into Illinois we hit an area of freezing fog so thick you could cut it with a knife. That was not fun driving through and hubby had to give me a talking to because I was so nervous and was sitting like a stiff board holding on to the door handle. Not something I ever want to do again. Thankfully we did manage to follow a big rig most of the way though. His lights were the only ones we could see. Lights on cars disappeared from our sight if they were more than 10 - 15 feet ahead of us.
Ugh.
There has been two snowstorms while we've been gone. One on the day we left and one this Friday. Some saint had cleared the driveway so we at least could pull into the garage instead of having to park on the street and clear the driveway before we could get into the house.
Whoever you are. Thank you.
More stories to come tomorrow. There's a real dozy I want to share :)
But we may get there Saturday (today) or Sunday (tomorrow).
We were lucky getting out of Iowa ahead of the big snow storm last week. It was only raining a bit when we left with lots of fog along the way.
Christmas has been mostly quiet with a few of the usual family stuff going on. Hubby surprised the shit out of me though. I got a gift card to be redeemed for a Klic-n-Kut when the machine gets back in stock. It was one of those gifts that I really didn't dare put on the wish list because it is kinda on the expensive side, but I am glad I'll have it in my hot little hands eventually :)
We took the kitties with us. They are good travelers, but have spent a lot of time hiding under a bed only to come out from hiding when the whole house is quiet.
Tonight I pack and prepare like we're going to hit the road tomorrow. From following the forecast for tomorrow develop throughout the day, I don't think it's likely to happen though.
The weather guys did mention that we could get a period of icy conditions before the rain turned to snow. On the other hand another weather type person just said the precipitation would not be significant in our area but further south it would be worse inch wise.
Gahhh. I am so durned tired of the forecast changing from hour to hour. Can't we just get one forecast and stick with it. Yeah I know that is not likely to happen.
Hubby have mentioned that we might try to get out of here on Monday if tomorrow is a no go.
Right now I am crossing my fingers tight that the weather will hold long enough for us to hit the road on Saturday and get where we want to get in a safe manner. Unfortunately it looks like the predicted weather is not going to be as nice as first told by the people who knows how to do that kind of stuff.
*sigh*
It's snowing, pumpkin pie is done, baked beans are in the crock pot and the local herd of house piggies have been fed.
That is what has been issued for the day. The estimate is anywhere from a trace up to 4" in places. With our luck it'll probably be 4" or nothing. At least that is how it seems like things are normally going around here.
Talked hubby into doing takeout something for lunch today. That way I have the undivided time to get going on the cooking which needs to get started today. We're only the two of us this year (a little sad about that) so it isn't much, but cooking lunch & dinner and start the cooking for tomorrow and all the dishes which needs to be cleaned makes me want to opt for takeout.
