I absolutely love the weather at this time of the year. Yesterday and the day before it was rain and thunder, this morning it is snowing (That is not a joke). Don't know how I'm going to break that news to hubby (unless it's still snowing when he wakes up) without sounding like a real bad "April Fools" joke.
The kitties were real happy when they saw hubby walk in the door last night, though a certain black and tan one has been playing the game of "let's punish that human" for leaving her. She also did a lot of squeak and run at me last night too. Came into the craft room, squeaked at me and ran as soon as I turned to look. Silly little thing :)
So I might or might not be home alone for the next couple of days. Something came up in the family and hubby is considering hitting the road, but he haven't made up his mind yet (At least not that I am aware of at the time of posting).
The snow we got the other day turned out to be bit more than expected, but it has already disappeared again. It was so weird for a while. I went to take my usual nap and all we were getting were a mix of mostly rain and a little bit of snow. When I woke up it was big fat flakes and it actually covered the ground. Needless to say I was enjoying it while everything was looking pretty, but as much as I love snow I think I am ready for spring. I love the time of year when I can start keeping the windows open for longer and longer periods of time without feeling like the house turns into a freezer.
The kitties have been enjoying the open windows too and several times we've been subjected to their lots and lots of fresh air antics.
I know I thought it was cold when I wrote about the weather the last time, but those temperatures is a heat wave compared to what I woke up to this morning. -20 with a wind chill of -37. It makes me wonder just how low it got over night and extremely happy that I do not have kids I need to get off to school or that I need to get out of the house today. Even a certain black and tan member of the house hold have taken to snooze in her carrier because it is placed in front of a heat vent and it's nice a cozy in there. But she still don't like the carrier and misses no chance to tell us about it.
And I don't mean cold as in 32F, but cold as in daytime highs of -5F and below with windchills way down in the range of -20F to -30F or colder. I don't even want to think about what it is like a night.
Thankfully hubby still has his cold weather gear from his time in the Air Force, so he's gotten the job of going grocery shopping this weekend because I am not going anywhere outside unless it's an emergency.
Even the cats think it's a tad on the cold side. Shadow has been spending a lot of time curled up in either of the carriers. Flash spends most of his time curled up on one of the back cushions on the couch or on his pillow in the bedroom.
Whenever we go out of town and have to bring the kitties, we always put a harness on them just to have an easier time getting hold of them if needed.
Last night was the night and boy did we get cursed out by a certain black & tan member of the household. From the sound of what was coming from her, you'd think we were trying to kill her or something much, much worse. She does not like to be handled unless she's asking for it and it happens on her terms.
On the other hand, a certain orange and slightly fuzzy brained member of the household is so much easier. I can just go and pick him up, put the harness on and we're done. No wailing, complaining or bitching us out.
Thankfully she did not stay mad at us for too long. It only took her about half an hour to come back around and wanting pets :D
The replacement fans got here yesterday and I am so ready to get back on the desktop computer. I love my laptop, but it has not been setup with email, newsgroups and a host of other things. If there was a super easy one click of a button way to keep certain files synchronized on the laptop and desktop I would do it in a heart beat.
The orange and fuzzy alarm clock continues to go off at the wrong times. It's getting old and I am tired both of it and from lack of sleep. Hopefully it'll stop soon, because I need more than a couple of hours of sleep at a time.
We got a bit of snow last night. Nowhere near what they had predicted. Just enough to cover the ground and a little more, but they say we'll get more later this week. Another one of those things I'll believe when I see it things.
It's snowing, pumpkin pie is done, baked beans are in the crock pot and the local herd of house piggies have been fed.
I am a bad, bad kitty mommy. At least that is what both the black & tan one and the orange one seemed to be thinking last night.
Every so often we get mail aimed at the kitties, which is usually new flavors of their favorite brand of cat food. Such a shipment came in the mail Tuesday and this time there was a sample of both wet and dry food in different flavors.
I decided to try the dry food right away but didn't think it would be a huge success because part of it was seafood and neither cat has ever been very interested (if interested at all) in anything containing sea food. Imagine my surprise when the orange one pigged out like I have never seen him pig out in a long time. He obviously decided that this was the new best thing and did not touch the regular dry food at all.
This brings us to Wednesday evening. Wednesdays are usually the wet food day of the week. I decided to try the can of wet food we had gotten in the mail the day before. Usually the orange one is all over us when we eat food with chichken or cheese, so this ought to be good since it contained chicken and cheese.
Guess what. The black and tan one dug in and ate herself to a full belly walk (cat people will know what I am talking about) while the orange turned his nose up and gave me that look. You know the look that says, "Am I supposed to eat this?."
Throughout the evening a certain orange and very whiny member of the household kept coming to the craft room to remind me that it's Wednesday and certain members of the household would really, really, really like to get their can of wet food. So to get a bit of peace and quiet and because the first can was not what they usually get I relented, grabbed the food dishes, cleaned them out and opened a can of what they normally get. This time I got the orange kitty song and dance, because oh boy the call of the pop top can was calling his name.
Guess what the little shit totally turned his nose up at this too. It was not until later I caught him face down in the food dish sucking up gravy like it was going out of style.
Bad kitty mommy indeed...
They were not fooling about the wind advisory yesterday. Today the cold, cold air have followed. Hubby have started wearing his heavy winter coat and the kitties have started searching out hot spots around the house. This usually means that we have to be on constant lookout for bumps in the road and kitty tails sticking out from unusual places.
